Want Magazine was born out of love for new understanding of human-made experiences… and the resulting motivation for contributing in return with enriching experiences of our own.
So what is an “experience”? We don’t define it as an involuntary or fortuitous happenstance, but rather as a willful contract between a maker-of and a beneficiary-of…The transfer of knowledge or practical wisdom that results from a memorable event. One side committed to its quality and integrity, the other side committed to its acknowledgment and assessment. Thus, we reverently and selectively use this noun only for expressively-engineered phenomena that are perceived to have great value to an audience. We feel the encountering and/or consumption of these phenomena bring about learning, self-realization, enhanced situational awareness, feelings of satisfaction–even joy.
(If this sounds to you like an everyday occurrence, congratulations–you are part of our club and our beloved target audience. Stay in touch!)
It is, at all times, the choice of the recipient to promote particular types of stimuli to the rank of bona-fide “experience” in her/his mind. This will happen only through conscious effort, and it is Want Magazine’s mission to increase the amount and quality of such awards. We have to work both ends, by upholding makers accountability and elevating audience’s expectations. And as always, education is the key.
What makes our magazine unique is that we are willing to take an apparently mundane occurrence, and celebrate it. We do not take experiences for granted. We trust them to instill change, to have the power to transform, to improve our lives and the lives of others. First and foremost, we intend to celebrate the makers of experience –those who devote their full time, energy and passion to making memorable moments and positive feelings.
Among these people, we highlight the professionals in the field of User Experience Design. Their discipline is purposely centered on the research, planning and execution of strategies, activities and results that bring purpose to users of products, interactions and places.
But we are aware that the responsibility of building greats “experiences” goes beyond the UX industry. It relies on everyone who deeply cares about how their work could inspire and provide deep emotions to any intended audience: architects, musicians, artists, fashion designers. We won’t leave them out. We intend to cover ALL professionals that inspire us. We believe that cross-pollination between fields is how the best work emerges.
Want Magazine will go beyond interviews. We will also highlight and analyze products, services, agencies, places, events that we deem to exemplify the art and science of experience-building.
We are excited to have you along and welcome you to participate with your comments, feedback, and promotion of our contents. We will build this together.
Thank you,
David Gómez-Rosado
Editor-In-Chief, Want Magazine.
